Mbalenhle Guesthouse was established in December 2017 by Thokozile Jili, affectionately known as TK. A passionate traveller herself, TK has always appreciated the comfort, privacy and personal warmth that come with staying in a beautiful private guesthouse. Over the years, this love for travel sparked a dream: one day, she too would create a welcoming space where people could feel at home while enjoying something truly special.
When TK purchased a spacious and beautiful home, she saw an opportunity to turn that long-held dream into reality. She began modestly by listing just one bedroom on Airbnb, testing her vision and opening her home to her very first guests.
Her first guests fell in love not only with the beauty and comfort of the property, but also with the warmth of TK’s hospitality. They encouraged her to open more bedrooms so they could return with their friends and families. Soon, demand grew beyond expectations, and what began as a simple experiment with one room naturally evolved into a fully-fledged guesthouse.
The name Mbalenhle holds a very special place in TK’s heart. The guesthouse was named after her one and only daughter, Mbalenhle.
This was a conscious and deeply personal decision. TK wanted to build more than a successful business; she wanted to create a family brand and a lasting legacy—something her daughter could one day grow, develop and carry forward. Mbalenhle Guesthouse is therefore rooted in family, love, vision and the belief that every meaningful legacy begins with the courage to start.
From the moment guests enter Mbalenhle Guesthouse, they are welcomed into an atmosphere of elegance and warmth. The entrance, lounges and dining areas are adorned with stunning chandeliers, while carefully selected white furnishings create a sense of sophistication, beauty and timeless luxury.

Like many businesses around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic brought unexpected challenges and forced us to pause our operations and rethink the future. Rather than seeing this period as the end of our journey, we used the time to reflect, restrategise and prepare for a new chapter.
Five years later, we are proud and excited to reopen our doors.
